Q. What are Charmin Freshmates?
A. Charmin Freshmates are flushable, premoistened adult wipes that give the entire family a fresher, cleaner feeling than dry bath tissue alone.

Q. What happened to the one-ply Charmin in the red package?
A. In 2007, Charmin upgraded the one-ply red packaged product to Charmin Ultra Strong—a two-ply tissue designed for consumers who prefer superior strength and durability in cleaning. If you prefer a one-ply tissue, we recommend Charmin Basic.

Q. Do you make a one-ply tissue?
A. Yes, Charmin Basic.

Q. I really like Charmin Plus Lotion, but I have trouble finding it. What can I do?
A. All stores are able to order any version of Charmin. So if you can't find your favorite, contact your store manager and say, "I want my Charmin!"

You can also Buy Charmin online or call us toll-free in the U.S. at 1-800-777-1410, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., EST.

Q. What is the Charmin Extender?
A. Charmin Mega Roll fits the majority of standard roll holders; however, if your roll holder needs a little extra room, replacing your standard roll holder with a Charmin Extender can help make Mega Roll the perfect fit for you and your family. You can request a free Charmin Extender online or via 1-866-381-5328.

Q. The plies on my Charmin Ultra are not lined up; it's not tearing in the right place.
A. Here's an easy fix if the plies aren't lining up:
  • Hold the roll in front of you with the paper winding over the top.
  • Pull the top ply up and drop it back behind the roll.
  • Its perforations should match with the layer that's now on top.
  • Tear away the excess and you're good to go.
Q. Does Charmin Ultra Strong, Ultra Soft, or Basic contain any inks, dyes, or perfumes?
A. No.

Flushability
Q. Is Charmin safe for sewers and septic systems?
A. For more than 70 years, Charmin has been a reliable bath tissue, trusted in millions of Americans' homes. Extensive tests show that when Charmin is used as intended in a properly functioning plumbing system, it shouldn't cause plumbing problems. To receive free information about flushable paper products and plumbing, please call toll-free in the U.S. at 1-800-777-1410, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., EST, or send an email via our Contact Us page.

Q. Does Charmin test to ensure that its toilet paper is safe for plumbing?
A. Yes. Charmin evaluates its toilet paper to ensure that it is safe for all of the places it might end up after flushing. This includes drain lines, sewers, septic tanks, and municipal wastewater treatment plants. Watch our video to learn more about what happens to Charmin bath tissue after it is flushed.

  • On-site facilities

  • Our own "flushability lab" etc.
Q. Can I flush Charmin Fresh Mates?
A. Yes. Charmin Fresh Mates wipes are flushable and safe for sewers and septic systems. For best results, flush only one or two wipes at a time.

Q. If bath tissue does not break down as soon as it hits the water, will it cause clogs in my toilet or drain lines?
A. No. In fact, bath tissue that does not break down right away holds up during use and protects your hands. Charmin bath tissue is strong enough to protect your hands and then starts to break down after flushing while in drain lines. Watch our video to learn more about how our products are tested for compatibility with toilets and drain lines.

Q. Why do toilets or drain lines sometimes get blocked?
A. There are a variety of reasons toilets and drain lines get clogged—from children accidentally flushing a toy, to tree roots growing in the drain lines. If a drain line gets cracked (from a house settling or heavy equipment running over the line, for instance), tree roots seeking water can grow toward the crack and eventually block flow of materials in the drain line. Watch our video to learn more about common causes of toilet and drain line blockage.

Q. Is it OK to use Charmin if I have a septic tank?
A. Yes. Charmin is thoroughly tested to ensure that it will settle in a septic tank and then undergo biodegradation in the tank. Watch our video to learn more about how Charmin is tested for compatibility with septic tanks.

Q. What causes septic tank problems?
A. Septic tanks need regular maintenance such as pumping out every two to four years depending on household size and use. Other common problems are drainage pipes that become blocked by plant roots or excessive water usage that prevents solids from settling in the tank. Watch our video to learn about causes of septic tank problems.
